Students wil begin this introductory Revit training course with an exploration of BIM Concepts, Revit capabilities, and a simple exercise to familiarize themselves with the revit interface and the basics of building creation. As they develop the first project over the next several classes they will learn view controls, 3D view navigation and the settings for controlling graphic properties. They wil learn to constrain the building design with dimensions and relationships between elements while practicing key editing and manipulating tools. The use of family libraries and accessing building content from the internet will be introduced along with a discussion of sketched features as students add floors and roofs to their project. As the first project comes to a close, students will create perspective views of their model and then lay out a construction document set of 8 sheets with plans, elevations, sections, details, and 3D views.

The main project commences in lesson 7 with a discussion of custom templates and students will learn to define their own project settings and options and save them in a template file. Students will learn to create custom wall types and will start laying out the framework for a 3500 square foot house. The project is a large one, with interconnecting hip and gable roofs, bay windows, dormers, and two sets of interior stairs. Students will have ample opportunity to learn the intricacies of all typical building elements including roofs, floors, stairs, railings, windows, doors, openings, casework, walls, and foundations. Over the last few classes, students will finish the project with annotations, and develop sections and details as well as 3D views and perspectives to include in a 12 sheet, final project, with linked plans, elevations, sections and details on custom project sheet.
